“I enrolled in cosmetology school and I’m freaking out!”

What to know for your first week at cosmetology school…

Dress Code: 

At The Salon Professional Academy Dallas our students are required to follow our dress code (link to dress code blog) If a student is out of dress code they will be sent home. So before you start school make sure you have lots of black outfits within the dress code ready to go. Thrifting is a great option if you are balling on a budget! You can also dye your clothes black using fabric dye. 

Clocking In + Clocking Out: 

When you get to school you will need to clock in at the time clock. Every minute matters! You definitely don’t want to be late because tardies will accumulate into occurrences which can lead to suspension days (yikes). Anytime you arrive or leave the building you need to clock in or out. This keeps track of your hours which will determine your graduation date. 

Lunch:

Full time students receive up to an hour lunch. You have to clock out when leaving for lunch. You are free to bring your own food or go to nearby restaurants- just make sure you are back in time! 

What to bring: 

The first week of school at The Salon Professional Academy Dallas is full of new things so you will definitely want to bring a notebook + writing utensils. You will be given an iPad for you to use in school for your textbook and assignments. You should also bring a backpack/bag to carry. Lockers and locks are issued to all students so you can store your personal belongings/ school supplies in a safe place. 

Advice from students:

“Stock up on black clothing that is within the dress code and make it a point to be here everyday.”

“Set goals for yourself to stay motivated. When you have goals it gives you more of a reason to work hard.”

“No matter how hard things can be, just keep pushing. Don’t ever give up.”

“Do what you love. If you don’t love it-don’t do it. I did the leg work: practice outside of school.”

“Do it, get it done. It’s hard to stay motivated but it will all be worth it.”
